Artist's Statement

A contemporary artist emerging from a lifetime in education and still engaged in learning and teaching, I investigate art as social commentary, a means of making sense of our many intertwined relationships.

Identifying with Koestler’s concept of creativity as "a process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual", I am a contemporary artist who has found embedded in her practice, a fascination with the painting, drawing and calligraphy of the ancients.

My current practice draws much of its content and form from the world of the everyday, with a juxtaposition of painting and drawing, familiar found objects, calligraphy and contemporary print media.

Underlying my art practice is recognition of the human need to make a mark, and through exploring the form that mark can take, I currently paint hyperreal images of my mixed-media constellation and glass assemblages whose intervention in the space of occupation alter the reading of the whole shebang. The more you look, the more you see.

Human interaction and the ocular-centrism of perception through lenses and filters, remain central themes suggested by the materiality of glass. Meaning becomes apparent in my work as the conspiracy of contingent influences concur through the chimeric complicity of concepts and materials.
